I am Iverner Pierre and I am twenty-four years old. I am in 13th grade, and I will finish next year in July, 2008.
My objective:
When I finish school, I would like to be an engineer, because the first day I went to school, I said to my parents, “I will be an engineer.” But now, I am about to finish and I don’t see any possibility for going to college. That makes me feel so sad because I am not going to reach my objective.
For that reason, I write these little paragraphs in order to present my problems and my objective. I always succeed in the official exams, and I am always the top in my clas. I assure you that I will succeed in whatever I face. If someone helps me for this reason, this help won’t be lost, and God will bless him/her for that.
Because of the poverty of my family, I am obliged to write this little page in order to find some friends to help me. I must move forward because I am the most advanced in a family of ten children. If I have access to go to the university, I will be able to help others who are less advanced than I am.
Thank you for reading.
Sincerely,
Iverner

    Dear Mr. Iverner,

Let me first start by saying, thank you for letting me read some of your observations about life in Bayonnais. Many of the situations you have described have left me feeling sad and without any words to give you. Without your words, however, I would not have known about these situations you are experiencing. I think what you are doing by writing this blog is important.

I wanted to comment on your entry, “The Haitian Youth.” I appreciate your recognition of behaviors which are harmful to society. I had the privilege of working with an organization in Malawi to better understand characteristics of community HIV/AIDS groups. One morning, before our group left to work on the survey, one of our team members told me about how he was going to get married and how he and his wife-to-be had gone for HIV testing. He told me that he did not fear having HIV because he knew that his behavior did not expose him to the virus. Your ability to speak out against risky behaviors impresses me. Your blog gives me another reason to hope that people all over the world may make decisions to prevent disease. You will inspire others with your self-control, maturity, and insights.

    Good luck to you,

    Kristen
